SOUTHWEST REGIONAL RESPONSE SYSTEM

OVERVIEW AND APPLICATION

Following the experiences of Greensburg of many Southwest EMS Responders it soon became evident that Southwest Kansas EMS did not have a Regional Response Plan or a system to implement such a plan. SKEMS it taking a proactive approach in developing such a system for future needs. The evidence is clear Disasters do occur in Western Kansas. Everyday our Counties of Western Kansas work at surge capacity which in most cases can be considered a daily Disaster. During these occurrences we have always worked at helping our neighbors and friends via mutual aid and whom ever can show up.. We need to be able to respond to these in a organized and efficient manner to use our resources wisely how ever limited they may be. SKEMS has accepted this task in a serious mode and is working to facilitate this to a successful end.

PROPOSAL

Develop and establish a volunteer group of dedicated and highly motivated group of 3-5 members who would be will to accept responsibility of engaging SW Kansas Resources to a local incident that overwhelms it local resources. This group would be called SW Duty officers. They would be tasked in maintaining a list of SW Kansas resources, which would be provided to them via SKEMS.

SW DUTY OFFICER INCIDENT TASKS

Engage the needed regional resources when notified to incident location.
Respond to Scene and work with local resources in Triage and Transport.
Continually evaluate scene for need of additional Regional Resources and Engage.
Set initial Incident Command location
Continue as Medical Unit Specialist under ICS Structure for expanded incident.

SKEMS and the people of Western Kansas need your help. Working together is the only way we can succeed in helping others when Disasters occur.

SKEMS is working on equipment lists and is acquiring communications and notification system for this much needed position.
